Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of replacing the winsheild glass in my 41 chevy 1/2 ton as it was cracked very badly and I am now looking for a little help.

I drilled out the 8 badly rusted screws that were holding the upper & lower bars in. (these are the ones that hold the two windshield frames halves together.) Unfortuately both of the bars cracked and broke. The big issue I have now is trying to remove the brokens halves that are rusted stuck inside the frame.

Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe try soaking for a while in WD40 ?

if your window frames are reusable then soak the point where the bar enters the frames and where you drilled out the retainng screws on both sides and top and bottom for at least a week. then try to lightly tap it apart without ruining the frame. if the frame is shot then just get new frames when you get new v- bars.

it took two of us almost three hours to get mine seperated without damage.

I had the sam battle a year or so ago. Following Ashton's advice I would add before you soak them drill a small home in the end of the bar(s) and thread in a screw. Let them soak. Then tap the screw to break the bar loose. An alternative is after soaking just drive the bars back in the frame far enough to have room for the new ones.

I was able to drive mine out with a tiny punch through the screw holes. Once they began to move they came right out. And you can't soak them to long.
