You may recall a previous post where I had bought a 'hydraulic lifter' 235 to replace the 'solid lifter' 235 in my 57 TF. I thought the engine was from a 57 Belair but found out later (check those numbers BEFORE you spend money) that it was a 62 engine.

I thought you may be interested in knowing the problems I've ran into so far:

1. Front motor mounts didn't work. 62 motor didn't have the taps on the side of the block to fit the 57 mounts. I had to drill the cross-member and mount under the front plate like the pre-55's did. No big deal to change.

2. I got a big surprise yesterday when I tried to attach my gas pedal linkage. The post that holds the swivel piece is located about 3" toward the rear on the 62 motor. I had to shorten the linkage from the pedal to the swivel piece and re-arc the curve through the floor. Minor annoyance if you have a welder.

I'll keep you posted on any other difference. (Why didn't I just drop that darned 283 in there.)

Since this is more of a driveline thing, I'm going to move it to engine and driveline, but thanks for the update!

I had to do similar things when I put the 261 in my truck. It's worth it, though.

Look at it this way Jerry, your performing a great StoveBolt service by providing us with all these little neuances of installing the 62'engine in that terrific 57 truck you have.

Sure hope it becomes the driver your wanting it to be.

Dave
ps...your keeping the original engine aren't you?

Makes me wonder what's going to happen next year when I put a '59 261 into a spot currently being occupied by the original '62 235.

jerry - i had the same situation when i placed a 62 engine in my 54 and had to make the same changes that you mentioned. I also had to change the water pump to a short shaft style. I wanted to keep the foot starter so i had to keep the flywheel and the starter from the original 54 engine as well. the one from the 62 was a "key start" and the number of teeth on the flywheel were different. i think i used the 54 bell crank for the carb linkage but i still had to cut and bend it to get it to work properly.

Thanks. I used a 57 water pump and the 57 flywheel, clutch assembly and bellhousing. I hope I'm done with mods. Thanks.
