When I try and fuel I have to trickle it in to fill up. Doesn't seem right. When I poured some in from the can it ran in pretty fast. I have tried different pumps/stations. Can't even lock it on the first click. I tried a search on fuel +splash.

On some models, holding the nozzle upside down will help. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 1,388 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 1,388 | Yeah, my truck likes to fuel up slowly as well, so does the car. It really only wants gas as fast as gravity feed, like from a jerry can. I have learned to just enjoy standing there and smiling. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | Here is my humble theory; The truck was manufactured when gas was 10 cents a gallon. The pumps then ran much slower and under less pressure. Now that gas is about $3.00 a gallon the oil companies want to get your money as fast as they can so they improved the pumps to deliver it faster under much greater pressure.
I have also noticed that the newer the gas station, the harder it is to get gas in my older cars and trucks. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 | FriedGreen, Actually pumps ran faster in the 50's than they do now. Federal law now puts a 10 Gal Per Minute restriction on dispensers for safety. Also, the age of the gas station does not make much difference. The same Red Jacket submerged pumps are used as were 25 years ago. The gallons per minute depends on how recent the filters have been changed in the dispenser. E10 tends to plug filters much quicker than clear gasoline. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 283 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 283 | Look at the bright side, the experience is taking longer so your cost per minute is lower. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 | Wde also are blessed with filler neck restrictors so you can no longer put a syphon tube down them. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 | I have an after market tank with no restrictions and it takes a long time to fill, can't use even the first notch and it splashes back.

Stovebolt trucks always had a problem taking gas at high fill rates, at least since the late 1950's when I started pumping gas! A restricted vent system that won't let the air purge out of the tank easily will also cause the gas to back up in the fill neck- - - -the gas can't get in any faster than the air can get out! Jerry

That is with the tank behind the seat. I hold the pump on rather than locking it on, but I could, I just prefer to stop when I hear the gas starting up the hose rather than letting the auto shutoff catch it. Besides- it doesn't take that long to put in 12 gallons. Now I would hate to have to use those california type nozzles with the black sock over the pump nozzle. I had great fun with them on a motorcycle trip out there. | | |
