It originally had a model B or possibly a Carter YF but not likely. The Monojet is an improvement if it is installed & calibrated correctly. It did not come out until 68.

First make sure the power valves are working & the float level is correct. There is a hole in the bottom of the carbs that must have a passage in the gasket to the intake manifold. Those are the basics. You may have to put leaner main jets in or weaker springs under the power valve rod. You might try lowering the float levels a little. You can use Carter carbs but they will have to be taylored also & are much harder to work with. A lot of guys use the Weber carbs. on those & report good results but I havn't used them on this kind of engine. We used to have a lot of them on the old Pinto's & Mustang's & they were tempermental.
