do I ever need help. I got the rear hub apart. the front nut was in backwards had to chisel it out a defuser seal was in the front. and no retianer nut ring. all messed up in there. and I damage the dam felt seal. thinking I had to remove that because it was the inner seal. come to find out there was no inner seal at all its missing. and the front had the deffuser seal that saposed to go before the inner barring. I found a exploxed view of a 1-1/2 ton rear end and they have like two seals and retaining rings and nuts missing or at the wrong place.

Son, your rear end is in deep trouble.

Relax! You will fix all this in time, a month, six months, a year, you will have this fixed better than before.

Here is the first page of a number of pages for you to use. This "should" be your axle type. Year is 1942, brand is Chevy, should be no differences or very little. Even if not precisely the same, this will provide an excellent overview of almost all rear axles of the era.
1942 Chevrolet 1-1/2 Ton

Read and view those pages so you will develop a good understanding of what you need to do. After this, simply a matter of finding parts, which is never simple. Nonetheless, you will eventually find all your parts, I would bet within three months. Watch Ebay, daily. Search the web, visit forums, run some "parts wanted" advertisements at forums like this one.

Should I or others come across some parts or part sources, we will let you.

Jeff asks, "What year and model of truck?"

1941 GMC 1 1/2 ton based on his other posts.

1941 gmc 1-1/2 ton single speed rear end. cc-303 has the eight nuts holding the axle. I could fix it and get the parts. if they were even in there. its messing the inner seal. locking ring, the pinion nut was in backwards. and the wrong seal. cant fix something that I dont even know how it went together in the first place. its not a 1975 C-10 rear end. I could fix that in my sleep, I have never worked on anything older than a 69 vet..

Here is a lead for you, military trucks of the era.

Have a look at this Ebay listing:

Rear Inner Axle Seals

...and this Ebay listing:

Rear Outer Axle Seals

I "think" those parts are the same as yours, not sure because of the "split axle" designation. Click on the seller's "see other items" to discover what all he has. I would email him and ask about parts for your truck, civilian, military, the same.

His listing is for a "CCKW" which is a 2-1/2 ton GMC. Don't know the military designator for yours. However, many parts, 1-1/2 ton through 3 ton are the same. Look around the web, you will come across whatever military symbol covers your truck.

Point here is there are a lot more military truck part suppliers than ordinary part sources we often use. You will have better luck through those. An example is I found old Clark transmission parts through a military parts source on the web and on Ebay.

I will pull more info and get back to you.

Edited in note here, your truck during WWII is designated "ACK-353" and the Chevy version is designated "G506". Those would be good search terms for Google.

Upon removal of the pinion nut and the six bolts, the cover comes off. There should be an oil seal that faces the large pinion bearing and behind that is the felt seal. The felt seal really doesnt matter. A new pinion seal is National 41130N measuring 2.598" x 3.481" x 0.50"

Make sure there isnt a groove worn into the yoke, otherwise you can get a speedi-sleeve to place on it when reinstalling. I have the number around here somewhere... Also place a little rtv sealant on the yoke teeth when placing back onto the pinion so that oil cannot leak out the splines, which is highly unlikely anyways.

As for the hubs, after pulling the axle shaft itself, you should have one bearing retainer nut, a lock washer, another bearing retainer nut, then the whole hub/drum assembly should slide off the rear end housing.

Here are links to my photos of my '47.1 rebuild. The hub setups are a bit different, but it should give you an idea on whats involved with the pinion and bearings.
