I just purchased the inside rear view mirror for my 1954 3100. Anyone have any pics of it mounted already? Are there factory holes or must I drill them myself?

There are no factory holes or markings for the inside rear-view mirror in 54/55. I'll look tomorrow in the accessory installation manual to see if there is a template or measurements for the location holes.

I cannot find a template or instructions for installing the 54/55 interior mirror.

Here is what I have done on two trucks:

- With the windshield and headliner installed, position the mirror arm above the windshield, above/adacent-to the windshield seal, above the middle of the window.
- Marked the two hole locations.
- Drill through the headliner and the first layer of sheet metal.
- Attach the mirror arm (two screws).

I have a cab stripped and could post a photo, so that you can see what you would be drilling through (just ask).

The last two photos show the bare metal in the interior, so you can see the metal you will be drilling into (if your headliner is already in place).

Use a sharp bit so you don't have to push hard. If you do you're likely to go too far and put a dimple on the roof panel. Along the same line don't use screws that are too long or you risk dimpling the roof that way as well.

Even though this an older post, I appreciate the info. Easy install with the diagram. For future installers, I did wrap electrical tape about 1/4" up the drill bit so I wouldn't dimple the roof sheet metal. It worked well. Thanks.

Someone else will have to tell which screw in the windshield divider strip/post your use:

mounting bracket
standard mirror
day-night inside mirror (another available option)

There are two ways to do this. Way number one your truck came with a dealer mirror and your center trim is drilled as shown (hole is towards top of cab).

You then insert a mirror with a stem like below (several sizes and day/night types were available).

Most have a thin nut backing them all though I did see a threaded trim piece once? Perhaps others will comment on this aspect.
The second way is you do not have that hole and want or have a bracket like this. It screws (standard trim screw hole) in providing a step for the mirror to then bolt to. They are both correct, mirrors were accessories installed by dealers who most likely used mirrors and brackets on the shelf at the time. These stem mirrors were available from the 30's into the early 60's and are still frequently NOS ebay items.
