Looking for opinions: Parting out a '46 or '47 former fire truck (butchered long ago by the Lions Club that owned it).

Get this: The cab has had a moon-roof added, the cowl vent has been bondo-ed shut and painted over (vent hardware still in place), and there's the usual rust in the rear corners - not swiss cheese, but rusty. Truck has been outside for many years.

Any point in trying to sell it? headscratch Or just leave it on the frame when the frame goes to the recycler? I'm thinking you'd have to be pretty hard up for this cab to be better than the one you started with.

Sounds like one of those "come get it or it goes to the scrap yard" threat ads. If you have the space for it for a while, put an ad on craigslist and let it run its time. If you get no response then you can in good conscience say you tried to save it. Now if you have a title that goes with it that may be a whole different story.

dump it. some people like to try and save everything because they feel its worth saving. you cant save everything, wisdom is knowing what to save and why but that only come from the experience of playing with these things and investing money along the way.

Well, this one has a F@RD sill plate on one side, I don't think either original door panel was complete, the dash is a mess, and the front windshield posts both have holes in them from the search lights on them (I'm keepin' those . . .).

I think T'Mater has a good idea - maybe one round on Craigslist will seal the deal.

Always feel bad parting out a truck, especially a fire truck. But this one had been sufficiently altered, that it will never go back. At least I'm using some of the parts (wheels, front clip, etc.) for my '51.

Thanks for the thoughts!

i would try to sell it. if you can't you can always dump it later. i just cut up some gantry stands today for steel and got just as much as i was asking for since the price of steel is up. just don't price it too high to start with, just make sure you get more than the price of scrap. surly someone will want to make a ratrod.

It might sell to a rat rodder. If the cab is mostly complete with both of the doors, it might still get you a couple hundred bucks. Put a price say $250 (or whatever) or best offer and see what happens. Cabs don't weigh all that much. If you get $100 it's more than you'd get for scrap price.
