O.K. so I just purchased a 64 C20, 292 engine. I turn on my lights (low) then my high. I look at my dash and notice that the GEN lights lights up. Turn off high beams and GEN light goes off.
Anyone have an answer.

Somebody got the high beam indicator light and the GEN light switched around behind the dash? When you turn on the key without the engine running does the high beam indicator light up?

I beleive it does go on. I am yet to familize myself with the truck (being my first)but I did notice upon turning the ignition ket that the word bright was lit up. I assumed that my high beams were on so I hit the switch but nothing happens, so I started the engine and processed with my lighing checks.

so what you need to do Lucky, is reach behind and pull the 2 bulbs as you would do if one were burned out, and switch their positions - the're in simple snap-in sockets .... should change the behavior to what's correct, indicating you are lucky, hope all your truck problems are so easy on ya! grin

I think your alternator belt is slipping. With the motor off, grab the pulley with a gloved hand and try to turn the pulley. If you can turn it even a bit , It's too loose and will need to be adjusted or the belt replaced.
