| | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 324 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 324 | At present I have a Donor 1991 4.3 v6 Astro , TBI system. The v6 engine is now in my 51 pickup.The rest will be installed as I go along. Listed here are the parts from the Donor Astro.
1. Computer
2. TBI body assembly,sensors & controls,gas pedal etc.
3. Ignition & steering column.
4. New wiring harness from Painless Wiring for the above computer & engine.
Everything will be original exept the "Tanks Inc" fuel pump & tank. The rest will stay exactly as it was in the Donor Astro.
From what I have read if the pump pressure is properly set, the pressure regulator and sensors at the trottle body assembly via the computer analyses should deliver the exact fuel required to the injectors to run the engine properly.
Does this sound right? Is this how it should work??

Get the right fuel pressure to the rail and the stock regulator should send excess fuel back to the tank. The engine should perform as it was in the Astro. The only concern I would have (and it's probably no concern at all) is if the weight or torque requirements for the truck are significantly different than the Astro. Then the computer map may not be right. I really believe that is a non-issue, though.

I do recommend going to Jagsthatrun.com and picking up the swap manual if you dont have one. they also have other things that you may want - VSS sensors, etc. if you dont have the original trans.
If you have to pull the engine apart for any reason, find a set of 96-2000 vortec cylinder heads and get the appropriate intake. They do breath much better than the earlier heads. Also, you can get a performance EProm from companies such as Hypertech, JET, FAST, Street and Performance, etc.
