The halfton pickup has a 292" and trying to determine if that is original engine. I was told 292 began in 1963. Can anyone tell by the unti # 122486, whether this truck was at the end of the production run? If so, may be it could have been fitted with a 292". (I dont know)

If the numbers you're giving me are the 6 digits at the end of your VIN, those are the unit number, with every year beginning with the number 100.001.
example...1=year
C=chassiswith C=2wd K=4wd
series= 14, 15, or 25 1/2 ton short bed
1/2 ton longbed
3/4 ton longbed
4=truck type
F= plant 11 locations available F=Flint
last 6 digits denotes unit number.

Tramp | | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 800 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 800 | There is no way that a 1/2 ton pickup in 1963 ever had a 292 in it from the factory. 230's came out in '63 to replace the 235 (except in 4x4 models) the progression was next to the 250 and then finally to the 292.
If you KNOW then type it. If you aren't sure about something, say so. There's no shame in that. But don't type stuff that you heard or think you know, because the real shame of it is that someone on here will believe it.
I didn't say when the 250 or 292 entered service, because I don't know exactly. Don't take it personally. Just don't throw stuff against the wall to see if it sticks.:)
Jerry, that either isn't a 292 or it isn't a '62 or it isn't the original motor.

manual {thriftmaster 235 cu. in} AND [jobmaster 261 cu. in]
the 63 lists a 292 cu. in. but your serial number suggests that you unit was made about half way through the production run, so it's highly unlikely you have the original engine.

It had the original 292 that was installed at the factory. The owner said he paid a little extra to get the 292 instead of the 230. If it's a 292 it will have the staggered motor mounts. He also ordered it without the third seat and the front side windows are sliders but the 2 rear side windows are stationary. I thought that was kind of interesting. | | |
