I think i know the answer to my question,but want to be sure.Are the suburban and pickup rear view mirrors the same (1947-1953)? My suburbans mirror looks totally different than my pickups mirror.I know the truck has the correct mirror.

I believe that you are correct that they should be the same mirrors. If not we will both learn something today.
Also I had a question for you.
I was looking at your Photobucket picks on the heater refurb and noticed the decal on the defrost cable bracket. The one that says defrost. How do I get one of those.

On the drivers side there are at least two different mirror arms. There is one that turns upward and makes the mirror the same approximate height as the passenger side mirror. I don't know what it came off of because I picked it up at the swap meet in Denver. It could be a Suburban difference or it could be a year difference. I am fairly certain that all my arms are OEM and not repros.

DOH! I don't even have an interior mirror. Can't seem to find one.

My 1941 1 Ton PU had no rear view mirror just side view mounted on the upper door hinges.

My 1946 1/2 PU had one mounted on the center windshield division bar. It was a pain because whenever you opened or closed the wind shield you had to readjust the mirror.

My 1946 Suburban had the mirror mounted to the bottom of the over head panel.

Take your pick, if no holes were drilled in your overhead panel you either did not have one OR it clamped to the division bar.

Here's the deal,i know where the mirror installs,on the center division bar for 1947-1953 truck,panel,suburban.It is screwed to the division bar with one screw not clamped.

I took a closer look at the mirror and bracket,even took some pictures.I think the mirror is out of an art deco style truck.You tell me what it's out of,here are some pictures.

I would think, Yes, Tim. I know they were the same in 54/55. And, I doubt very much that GM would make different standard mirrors in the same year.

Over the years, I have seen many styles of non-prismatic mirrors in 48-54 trucks. When I needed replacement mirrors in the 60s-70s, I'd go to junk yards and look for anything that fit.

My March 1954 Master Parts Catalog lists no interior mirror prior to 1947, one interior mirror for '47-50 (986632), one for '53 (986651), and one for '54 (986948). There is no interior mirror listed for '51-'52.

For the record, outside mirrors are as follows.
'31-54 ALL outside (5-1/16 OD) mirror only 3696632
'39-50 ALL outside, less bracket and arm, black (6-3/16 OD) 602073
'47-53 ALL outside, mirror (5-1/32 OD) w/adj. arm (extendable 8-7/8) 986440
'54 All outside, mirror (5-9/16 X 7½) w/adj. arm and atach. parts (extendable 8) 986985

Cletis,thanks for the information.This is strange that 1951&1952 didn't show a listing for the rear view mirror.I will install a rear view mirror like my pickup has,one that bolts to the division bar.
