Hi,I was wondering if someone might be able to give me advice on where to hook up a hoist to pull 235 6cyl.engine? I have yanked plenty of v8s but not sure about a 6cyl. A person in a local area has offered to sell his 235 and 3spd tranny at a good price if I will pull it for him since he does not have the tools, But I was wondering where to hook it up and is it best to use a chain or heavy duty straps?

Mine 235 pulled right out.

But, if I were to use a chain, I would remove the valve cover, and screw lifting bolts on opposite corners both front and back into valve cover bolt holes.

Use a chain, like the method that tclederman posted the link for.

I've always ran a good chain diagonal from a manifold bolt rear left side across to a bolt water pump hole on the right. I would use the adjustable gizmo that allows you to turn a crank and adjust weight and position of the motor.

Thank you all for the good info, I have all those tools just did not know where to hook up after looking at those old six bangers I never realized how big and heavy those things are.

I took out the radiator and grill, and pulled it right through the front of the truck. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

A good safe way to pull that engine is go to Ace hardware or some place like that and get two eye bolts the same size as your head bolts and take two head bolts out and replace with them with them thats the way I have been duing it I also built a chain spaner above the engine out of a pc.of 1 1/2 angle iron it will keep the engine in control and the eye bolts are rated at around 1200 pounds each so it is real safe.

I use an Eastwood engine leveler with the four "L" saped brackets and 1/2-13 bolts in place of four head bolts.

Do not use the valve cover bolt holes. They can and will break out from the head! I won't tell you how I found out back in 1966.
