Patrick's has them, and I beleive that Classic Parts (formerly Chevy Duty) has them also. The gears themselves are manufactured by Richmond Gear, but I don't think they sell them to the general public, only through a parts house like Patrick's etc.

Patricks and various other places advertise them, nobody actually has them currently, unless you find someplace like this - they did have some old stock on the shelf some months back

Crap! I need to get this set up myself. What other options are out there if you want to keep your three on the tree?

there's other rear ends that can be swapped, if you can handle 5 lug, or you can wait and hope that Richmond Gear makes another run before our trucks all rust away,,,,, again grin

I'm gonna use an original OD 3spd, which do show up from time to time, like on e-bay

If you use a 3speed OD you should go to a 3.90 rear end that will give you a final drive in OD of about 2.73 which is perfict for highway driving and are more readily available.

You can find the 3 speed od for around $100-150
at a swap meet. Passenger and truck units are the same other than the shifter arms and the speedometer drive gear, the passenger unitsm are usually set up for a 4.10 differential.

actually with an OD in the truck, the factory rear gears were 4:11 too

If you go the OD route, it is the easiest and cheapest, but be sure to checkout the solenoid or get assurance that it works. The solenoids bring more by themselves than the original OD trans purchase. No need to change the rear end because a 4.11 gives a 2.88 final when in OD.

I guess what I really meant that the od tranny has a speedo drive gear for the 4.11, which will make the speedo off when you use it with a 3.90 rearend. Also, the '55 manual only shows a 3.90 gear for '55, but I think that 4.11 would be used on the later trucks when that option was availible.

I've been waiting for a year too. Randy's Ring and Pinion (this is where Patrick gets his) told me they are scheduled for a July production run. That is true encouragements since they didn't even have a schedule until recently.

I was wrong that Patrick buys from Randy's Ring and Pinion. I talked to Patrick this morning and found that Randy's is actually buying from Patrick. Patrick said he will have them on 15 July (finally!). cool

Hey, are they sure they are going to have them, or were they giving you the same old story. I would sure like a set myself.

I don't think Patrick is a liar but nothing material is truly certain until in hand. Since Patrick is the sole "supplier" of 3.38 gears in today's world where are your options but to wait?

He knows the demand and wants them worse than we do since he puts food on his table by supplying us with parts for our toys.

He previously counted on others to supply them but he has taken over and having them made personally. He received prototypes which were fully tested and approved. The order was placed for production quantities which his manufacturer has committed to ship so they will be on Patrick's shelf on 15 July.

About 2 hours. We are up by the Quad cities. Ever been to the cruise in Monmouth IL in August?
It would probably be worth the trip. Lots of cruisers. Last year close to a Thousand.

No but it sounds real good. Please post the event on the site when you have details. I'd like to inspect your truck and share info on our 3.38 swaps. I sure hope nothing happens to spoil Patrick's schedule cause I'm ready to get it done!

Last time they were available they were about $400. Than you should buy the install kit for another $125.

Hey guys. Talked to Patricks yesterday and they did confirm to me also they are getting some in!

If you want some get on the list! Never know how many they will make. Hope they really do come in. It would be nice to keep up on the highway.
