I was wondering if someone might be able to direct me to the best place to purchase the replacement brake hardware kit for a 1953 3100s ? I have tried all the local parts houses but no luck.

Thanks in advance

When I can't buy something like that local I next check online general parts suppliers like RockAuto.com and if that doesn't work I try the old truck specific catalogs (usually online) like LMCTruck.com.

My current project is replacing the spring bushings at the rear of my 1-ton GMC. None of the old truck places list them and I didn't like the price at Rock Auto, so I searched online for bushings and found them for a third of the price at a place that just makes bushings.

Google can really be your friend!

1955 1st GMC Suburban | 1954 GMC 250 trailer puller project | 1954 GMC 250 Hydra-Matic | 1954 Chevy 3100 . 1947 Chevy COE | and more...
It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...

Try Napaonline. The local Napa dealer here carried everything for my 53 3100

Ok I'll try that I did go their but they told me their book did not go back to 53. I did check LMC and did see them listed with brakes so if advanced does not come thru for me I'll try them.

Thanks again guys for all the info.

I'm not sure where you are in Texas but I have good luck at O'Reilly, Autozone, and NAPA

I don't know what is up but these guys could not help me O'reillys is going to order a set in to see if they can match it. Napa,Auto Zone said they did not have it. I am in Round Rock near Austin TX. Advanced is going to call their vendors, but so far no luck a mechanic said to put the old springs back on they should be fine if they are not rusted thru.

Thanks

I agree you can use the old stuff. Its just nice to have nice stuff that looks good and you know all the tensions are good.

I deliver parts for Advance Auto here in my town. I looked in the computer and it did not go back that far. I then looked at what it did have and it had a listing for a 55 or 56.... but that was one year ago. Heck, I also ordered my brake shoes through them. They were not in stock but I got them PDQ and had them the next day. Sounds like someone is falling down on the job.
Another thing I did/do is was to go on to the web site. It has some listings that you can get... .you just have to get the part number and take it to them and ask them to order it!! I have done this recently.
Hope this helps. It sounds like you just need a GOOD parts man!!
