The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Cab Stand

I want to build a stand to put my cab on so I can work on it and have it off of the frame so I can work on it. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Just a note - if you're going to be doing work such as replacing body panels, leaving it on the frame is best, as you can make sure things line up correctly. It's easier to adjust when it's on the frame before you weld, as opposed to welding off the frame and then trying to make adjustments once you put it back on the frame. If you're not doing any panel replacement then it doesn't matter.

Doug5558 This what I did and it worked very well. Easy to build
sort of like a cradle on a stand. Hope this helps.

i went to a boat storage place and picked up a jet ski trailer for 75.00 and put a wood bed on it and it works great. i can easily move the cab around in my garage and i use it to take it to the body shop. Paul

Never thought of that. I think I'll see what I can find around here.

I want to paint the frame before hand though I suppose it could wait. Plus, I have the 55 cab on the frame and the 58 cab sitting in the floor. I intend to use both cabs to make one. I guess I could remove the pieces I need then place the 58 cab on the frame.

I like the rotating cab stand.

I've thought about building a rotating stand similar to this for some time. Great pictures it looks like a good design. How hard was it to rotate the cab with it in place?

Another good rotating stand that I was impressed with that would be mighty handy is one built by kiwiwilly for his COE cab.

how heavy is a raw cab?(47-53)i'm thinking of building some heavy duty sawhorse style stands out of lumber?

Incorporating appliance casters into a cab stand sure helped me with maneuverability. I used an old futon frame but something can be made out of a couple pallets in a pinch. IMO it takes 4 guys to lift it safely.

I've tried with two people and you have to plan a spot for the cab to land when you drop it! Actually, two can do it but only for short distances.
