The D is a code for the combination of manufacturing plant and model.Most likely the engine has a valve cover with two bolts n the top? If any of the above is not correct, we can trust that someone will post corrections (please). _____ Here's a wild guess on the D in JAD - option 313 (Powerglide transmission) from the Flint plant. One way to tell if this is a good guess would be to see if it has hydraulic lifters.

The "D" in JAD designates the automatic transmission option in 51' manufactured at the Flint plant. This below resource says option 317. So, JAD decodes as a 51' 235 engine originally built for the powerglide option and available in any of the "Deluxe" passenger 2100 models listed here: http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/chevyresto/51042.htmA pictorial of the models is here: http://www.tocmp.com/brochures/Chev/1951/pages/51chevy2_jpg.htm

No, the high-pressure lubrication system first was available in 1953 235 engines in Powerglide-equipped cars.
