The mounting area is curved on the firewall so the bracket has to be modified in order to work. There are no holes in the firewall for the V-8 linkage if the vehicle originally had a 6 cyl.

| | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | the correct holes for the linkage is on all 58 and 59 [at least] firewalls, 6 or 8, don't recall about the 5-7, all those years I've had I left as 6's, but as the V8 was started in 55 with that linkage, I'd expect to find the mount holes .... and the repro linkage bolted right up to my 58 in pic above
