Are the rear fenders on the 55-66 stepsides the same? If so, would the fender mounted tire carriers be the same for the short beds 55-66. I know there was a difference for shortbed/longbed, but the beds are pretty much identicle.

Not sure exactly what your question is. Are you interested only in the spare tire bracket for a shortbed with the spare tire fender cutout?

According to the people that sell them the stepside fenders themselves are the same from late 54 to 66. Not sure if it's what you're stating above, but the left rear fender with the spare tire cutout is different between the long and short beds. The long bed mounts the tire lower. I don't have a side mount spare so no first hand experience with the brackets. Hopefully someone that has one will chime in.

No, the fenders are different long bed vs. shortbed IF they have a spare tire cut-out. And I have pictures to prove it. thumbs_up

Let me expand on Markeb01's comments.

The long bed fender mounts the spare tire lower. In addition it mounts it closer to the cab.

The short bed fender mounts the spare tire higher. In addition it mounts it farther away from the cab.

I used a long bed fender on my short bed cause I liked the lower tire look. However you are limited in the size of the spare tire you can mount with this set-up.

Check out this link and go to post #7 for some comparison photos and additional data: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=363509

I hope this helps

Thanks for the help. I have a short bed and am searching for the fender and bracket now. Just wasn't sure what years I could use. I realize there is a difference in the short/long bed
