Perhaps it has nothing to do with a Stovebolt

not GM - Ford used that type of "V8" trim - late 40's/early 50's

The V8 is what is throwing me. It doesn't look like any V8 marking I've seen before. Fords thing was putting the 8 inside the V. Also most fords had a raised center down the middle of the hood.

maybe that "V8" style was Mercury
