Hello, What kind of oil should I be using in my stock 1946 235ci? I've only had the truck for a few months and I used straight 30 when I changed oil. Thanks

20 or 30 weight non detergent (if you can find it) in an old used engine is just fine. I use 15w40 synthetic in mine. Everyone has an opinion on this and it has been discussed to death so I recommend you do a search on engine oil.

The only drawback to straight 30 is cold starting. The oil is about the consistency of honey at 30 degrees or below, so it's rough on starters, and the bearings run with limited lube for a while until the pressure gets to them. I like to run 20W-50, which flows like a 20W when cold, and lubricates like a 50 weight when hot. BTW the "W" indicates "winter" not "weight". "W" rated oils are flow-tested at 32 degrees F. There's no such thing as a 30W motor oil. Always use high-detergent HD30 if you choose to stick with a straight-weight oil, not the low-quality non-detergent oil that's intended mostly for worn-out oil burners. The old myth about detergent oil being bad for stovebolts still has a few true believers!

I think you should look at the area in which you live to make most logical decision. Around my area I run 10w30 all the time. Just recently I ask a long time service manager what kind of oil they are putting in their cars here in MY AREA since the oil caps all say 5-30 and his reply was "in this area we use nothing but 10w30".
So, look at the temperature extremes and go from there.

I don't know how to make a beter short cut but here is a older post that was talking about 10w-30 and there may be some useful information in it for you.
