So I have stared at stovebolt for a year now dreaming of owning a 5 window AD truck. I loved the 54-55 models and there beautiful front grill round fenders and running boards. I owned a few antiques in high school that I worked on, but now I have moved on to needing a truck and convincing my wife too. I traveled several hours from my local area going to people who have said that they had a fixer upper in great shape only to be disappointed when I arrived and driven home with an empty trailer. I live in Idaho and there are plenty of these trucks out here, but farmers tell me there grandkids want them or that "one day I'm goin to get around to fixing that old truck up". I ended up finding my project not ten minutes from my house when I went to this old mans house asking him if he had any old motors lying around I could fix up. He has lots of trucks lying around his property, one restored 54 chevy 1/2 ton and a restored 57. There was one truck in the corner I never saw though a 55 1st series cab with corner windows sitting on a frame. I talked with him about it and he said there was no title and that it would be hard to get one. He agreed to sell it to me though and any parts from all his other trucks lying around the yard. So one complete truck for 500 dollars! And then he told me if I worked around his property he would pay me ten dollars an hour off the truck! He is also letting me use room in his shop and all of his tools for 35 bucks a month. So now I have the truck that I have wanted, all the parts to assemble it, a place to fix it up, and it all paid off already from chopping wood! I have a paint shop, sandblasting tools, grinders cutters and anything else I need to get going. So I have had the truck now for a month, I was able to get the title after jumping through hoops with the DMV and I have torn the cab off the frame. I look forward now to making good headway on this truck with the help of all my fellow stovebolters!

Welcome, looks like you have a good start already. Every time you need another part, you have to chop a bit of wood? Fell free to pose all your questions, some of the guys here are impossible to stump.

Welcome to the Stovebolt. I think your a lucky man! And although you may have to work a little to put it back together at least the dismantling part was already done. See, your already ahead of the game. Good luck. It is a rewarding trip you are embarking on and one that will be with you for a long time once its going.

The arrangment sounds very good. You stumbled into a perfect situation. That guy will be very surprised to see you riding around in a truck that couldn't get registered, in pieces, and laying around the farm for years. Sounds like you already made the impossible happen. Good luck, I can see you are not lazy, and in no time you will have a complete running truck.

I go by Mountain 319 and Im new to this sight. I have a 1941 GMC panel truck that Im rebuilding and have all running gears if someone needs the those parts. thanks

This is the Welcome Center. you could have posted a "new topic" just for yourself so all could see. Nevertheless we know your here and you will soon learn your way around to all the good stuff.

$35.00 a month$ for the shop and tools. If you think about it to buy all the tools you will need would cost you a lot more than 35$ a month. You have a perfect situation. Nice dry place to work and away from the wife and her parking spot.

Good deal all right. I can't even heat my shop for that. I didn't realize you had a panel, this deal sounds better all the time.

Thanks all for the responses. I do not have the panel, that was someone else. I look forward to all the help as it comes together. I hope I don't get caught up in something else in the meantime though. I just found an old 53 tow truck in someone's backyard rusting away. How fun that would be too!
