Go to your local home center or lumber yard. Buy a roll of Peel & Seal. Works as well as the expensive stuff at a fraction of the cost. (plus you can patch your roof with what's left over) grin

You may get replies that it will smell like roof tar when it heats up or that it may not stick well when it gets really hot but its been fine in mine. Bought mine at a local roofing supplier. I used 3m adhesive to intall it and then used the metalic silver tape for the joints.

Don't buy the kit from LMC, i did and it was dried out and broken. it is made of petroleum by products. rather than send it back i threw it away. i did use the carpet padding looking stuff and it works very well. i have also used the peel and seal and heat will make it let go, so use it on flat surfaces or use extra glue. ron

Used peel & seal on inside of doors, floorboard, and behind gas tank 7 years ago--special ordered it at Menards. Applied over clean primered surface, adhered well, never came loose, worked well to reduce noise and have never experienced the smell. Very well pleased with the result. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Does anyone know if there are any stats that ACTUALLY say that Peel & Seal is as good as Dynamat? Not that it matters that much but I'd be happy if it were just close to being as good.

As for using it on the underside of my roof, would it work if I put it up over a rust encapsulator using the self adhesive it comes with, THEN using the silver metallic tape that Shea mentions above on each edge, then putting the next piece up? Also, I noticed via the link, it comes in 6 inch wide strips or i 33-1/2" wide strips. It seems like the 33-1/2" stuff would be a pain to try to apply it to the roof.

You can get it in several widths at the lumber yard. It should stick well to about any clean surface. It's made to stop ice damming and flash around doors and windows. It seals nails driven through it. As for stats, all I've read about using it on vehicles has been anecdotal evidence like that from 56picup.

Used to be an excellent comparison on this site
http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/
Now he sells the stuff. Wish I could find the old article/test results, done very simply and easy for the average guy to understand, and easy to see why the real stuff is preferred even if it cost more.

Last time I read the comparison Second Skin was #1, for quality vs. price. But it's been several months now.

I too used the Peel & Seal - 6" wide for my cab. I did the floors, cab, roof, and doors. Easy to cut and fit. Sticks pretty well on clean metal. No smell, even on a hot day. Does it perform as well as Dynamat ??....probably not, but it cost me about $ 80.00 to do the whole truck !

The two most effective vibration/sound damping products in my estimation are Dynamat and Second Skin. Second Skin is a bit cheaper than the Dynamat and is what I bought.

sound deadener 32x54 $38.00 roll

Not as thick as the expensive stuff but it was easy to apply and afforadable

a few pics

The supplier is out of Arizona and NOT a chevy supplier.

I used Reflectex from Home Depot about 20 bucks a roll. Used a 3M contact cement to hold in place. Seems to work OK and takes away some of the "tinny" sound. Pics start here. Have fun and good luck

I dont recall how many rolls, It was over a year ago.
I used it on the firewall, cab roof, rear of cab, and placed some extra material in the doors.

maybe 2

Its peel and stick. works well as long as the surface is clean

Good Luck
