Should the original bed have the same steel strips and wood as in the Advance design? Looked at the transmission,(wow is it small) the mounting bolts to the bell housing, do the top ones go in toward the engine and the bottom ones go in toward the transmission from inside the bellhousing? I looked under the dash, does the dash come out fairly easy? Looked at the window crank assembly, it's different than I've seen, it looks like a cogged wheel driving a wide plumbers tape, is this orignal? Thanks in advance. You can check the tech tips for rebuild information. If I remember correctly you have a 3spd trans. It is small and easy to remove. It's bolted in as you describe. To remove it you can pull the top bolts and replace with some that are about 4" long. Cut the heads off and put a screwdriver slot in the end. Then you can remove the lower bolts and slide the trans back on the long upper bolts to clear the clutch and just lift it out through the cab. These things are pretty simple. Sounds like you have a good start. The transmission looks to be a piece of cake as you described taking it out. The more I look at this truck the better it looks,I have found no rust in the cab or the floors, I might have to get new rear fenders. With all original drive train what speed would this truck drive down the road at? They make a differential upgrade for art decos don't they? I would also suggest going to Brad's http://www.brads41-46chevys.com/ as it has great info or look up Tim Sheridan's site http://www.46chevytruck.com/ as it is the best around and I believe he has all the options for the trucks plus colours etc there. I took my dash out and I needed to grind most of the bolts off as they get pretty rusted from the crank out windsheild. As for the front window crank...I have 3 of them as I had a 41 3 ton truck and bought one from someone in the classifieds. A working window crank is worth it's weight in gold. Yours is most likely just ceased up from lack of use. Soak it in some liquid wrench or evaporust for a while. That is what I did and it freed up one of mine. All 3 of mine work and I will be selling the extras once I decide which one I am going to use.

I took the seat out and looked at the gas tank. What does it take to remove the gas tank? Are the straps bolted all the way through the floor? What's the easiest way to take it out, whole seat frame or just undo the straps and remove the upper crossmembers? How much pressure should the clutch have on it, I compared it to my 52 4-speed and it has about 1/4 of the pressure on it. How much slop is allowed on the king pins, I jacked it up and felt for movement, I can see movement in the king pins and the tire moves about 1/2 inch at the top. Is there a good and easy way to test the condition of the spring shackles?
The more I look at this truck the better it looks, it has some issues but nothing major, I looked at the speedo today 37557 and I'm believing it could be right.
For right now I'm thinking of redoing the brakes, maybe discs on the front, dual master. I think I may leave the front end as is. I now feel this truck is way to nice to do anything to but leave mostly original. You should ask your body work questions in Paint and Body, your engine and transmission questions in Engine and Driveline, etc. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,554 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,554 | I know about the other forums BUT, it seems that the only place I've had luck getting my questions answered were here and the engine and driveline forums. 1941 Chevy"First rebuild - complete!"Follow the story in the DITY1941 GMC resting peacefully 1946/1947 Chevy Street rod on s10 frame complete 1945 GMC panel truck in line for restoration 1941 Plymouth stock complete 1941 GMC COE in restoration processRead his Project Journal1941 Chevy Coe uncertain future resting now
