Before I go running all over the country to find the pulleys I need for the fan,a power steering pump ect I figure it would save me some gas and time looking so why not go with the one belt system?
Who has done this? Did you get a kit somewhere with all the stuff in it? If so where? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 | March and Billet Specialties make a complete serpentine belt kit but they are pricey. I think Vintage air has a set up but probably not sold other than with their a/c kit. Summit and Speedway would be less pricey if available but the least expensive would be a factory set up off a 350 in a pickup or suburban in the junkyard. All these are for the long water pump so if you don't have room the aftermarket ones can be bought for both the long and short pump. If pulling one from the yard be sure to get every last bracket, bolt and nut and a few pictures won't hurt. They use a reverse rotation w/p so get it also.

Be sure to get a fan that will pull the air through the radiator, not push it. A friend's Chevy Nova 4-cylinder would overheat on the road, but not in traffic. I found that he had installed a Chevy Vega fan that was supposed to turn CCW, and it was stopping the airflow through the radiator at higher engine/road speeds. Jerry

I knew I could count on you. I had not thought about the water pump. I think I will see what is laying around the shop and my local salvage yard. I may end up with the "ocnventional" set up but you have to always think about the options..and the $$$. Thanks guys. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 104 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 104 | There was a tech article several months ago in Hot Rod magazine I believe. It showed step by step how to do it, most of which was covered by Scott. They mentioned getting all of the parts and using some to cover the core charge for replacement parts.(water pump, alternator, etc). It sure beat paying a couple grand for one of the aftermarket kits. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats | | Grumpy old guy playing with trucks, cars, and boats Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,859 | you can get a complete motor from LKQ for $300 that runs. you would have to ask what one that doesnt run goes for.

If you want I can check and see what is all there...Joe | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Joe, believe me I am in no hurry although I must address this soon. I just talked with my nephew over in Gaffney and he is going to check at one of our neighbors and life long friends that "runs sort of a junk yard". You know, the ones with a couple acres of vehicles he is going to fix up! I may end up just buying the regular stuff I need from Advance. It will save me gas money, parts will be new and guaranteed, and since I get a nice discount it may be the best route....new power steering pump ect ect... Thanks though. I'll let you know what I decide. EDIT: Glad to see your home and doing good. Just follow the doctors orders along wiht Denise's
