I'm not much help on your questions but thought I might add something about the design.
I believe there were some early 47's that were really 46's so its possible to have a "Art Deco" looking truck but vin'd as an Advance Design.... but that doesn't explain a 46 being a 1948.

Hmmm, maybe some hanky panky on the numbers over the past 62 years or so??

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

I come up with a '48 3100 built in November. The "S" part of the code doesn't come up in my spec book. That part of the code should be a number, not a letter. I suppose "S" could be mistaken for a "5", in which case it would be out of the Kansas City, MO plant.

I doubt it will be a help to you, but just to let you know there are various "weirdness-es" out there on old VIN's. My "46" is titled as a '46 complete with original appearing I.D. tag on the cowl but the cab is a '41 because it has a bolt in rear window glass frame.

Before you ask - No, it is not the result of weld repair exactly. I think the truck must be an assembly of various rust free parts from an assortment of trucks, i.e. a rust free running board here and a clean door there. I can only think the frame of the truck the restorer started with was from a '46 and when he found a rust free cab from a '41 he put on th4 frame and transferred the i.d. tag - which (I think!) is illegal, isn't it?

Is there a VIN number on your (mine too) frame to compare your cab VIN to?
