HI guys,I´m using the 1956 235 engine on my 1952 chevy truck. The clearance between the fan blade and the radiator is already fixed. The pulley and the harmonic balancer are the original from the 56 engine, but I note that is overheating. what happen when you use the short pulley water pump? the diameter of the short one is smaller, then going to turn faster the fan blades? is this ok ? if not, do I have to change the harmonic balancer too? what else do I have to check to cooler the engine?
thanks,
Alfonso

Alfonso,

The harmonic balancer should be fine. Have you relocated the water pump? If not, do a search on +pump +plate

There have been a lot of helpful posts on this topic.

You would install the relocation plate and use a pre-55 water pump that has a pulley to match your harmonic balancer (and generator/alternator pulley).

Ok,the low location of the fan (using pulley, fan and balancer from the 56 engine) affect the right ventilation function?
2- if I buy the adapter, do I have to buy the 216 water pump?
but this one have 5/8 belt and the mine use 3/8. what example could be a pre 55 water pump?
3- the fan blades have special function?, I mean, if I use the 216 fan blade on 235 pulley could drop the performance?
thanks tclederman.

Use a 1953-1954 car water pump for a 235,it has the 3/8" pulley. The napa part number will be 58-126 .

you may also have to have the flange which mounts the pulley pressed down the water pump shaft to line up the belts better.

The pulley is in the correct place with a 1941-54 pump, and my adapter plate.

Thanks guys, once again, I´m using the 1956 chevy engine with original pulley and harmonic balancer on my 1952 chevy truck. I repositioned the radiator to the front to have the right clearance. I was thinking that I had the natural installation for the engine(of course in other truck), but there is something I´m missing? On my first truck I had the same situation and never suffered whit it.
I want to read all your ideas.

When does it overheat? While driving and it slowly gets hot? While idling and it slowly gets hot or does it heat up right away? Of all my trucks, it's always been a plugged up radiator. A good flowing radiator should compensate easily for and waterpump/fan modification that's been done, unless sittng still idling for long periods of time.

Double chek the distributor timing. Off just a few degrees can cause overheating.

Thanks Scott. My truck gets hot slowly While idling. The radiator is good shape. I removed the thermostat.A friend of mine told me that we have to recalibrate the valves and timing also. What do think about it?
My other question is if I have to change the pulley for one smaller?, but it increase the speed to much(I thinking in the 216 pulley), maybe another pulley could work?
