But after cleaning,prepping,painting an just bought everything I can think of to seal this unit when closed alludes me!
The Cowl vent opens and closes smooth when closed it is not askew in anyway ..I mean it seems to be setting with the same gap all around and sets flush to the cowl.
BUT ...NOW THERE'S ALWAYS A BUT isnt there.
When in a good rain or just washin the Truck in the yard water just POURS in to the inside.
ANY TIPS to fix????
P.S. new and open drain line installed.

As you will be aware,the cowl section is not a one piece pressing.Paint alone will not seal it.
I imagine they were probably seam sealed all those years ago,but the sealer dried,cracked and fell out over time.
Sounds like you need to get flexable and get under the dash with a torch while Mrs Radial,or some other helper sprays the truck with a hose.

Does the vent sit flush with the cowl? If so the seal is too short and you should start thinking of ways of raising it or filling the gap. If the vent is above the surface of the cowl look for an adjustment.

Tim,
Is there a chance that the leak is at the windshield gasket? Have you tried having someone pour water directly on the closed vent while you observed under the dash?

Let us know what you find Tim....after you squiggle around under the dash while Seth shoots the water at it. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 | Well this mornin before school I took Alvin's advise and had Sethy hit the cowl vent vigorously with a squirt bottle while I watched from inside it is defiantely coming in around cowl seal,I have the handle adjusted so that the cover is pretty tight when closed, I tried putting some white grease on the foam seal and closing it up ...there are spots were the vent cap doesnt even touch the seal.
So I now going to make a template and make a 3/16" shim and get another seal and shim it up, that should fix this prob.
