I have an 59 overdrive in my 41 sedan.
The OD can not be mounted with the original mount.

The solution I have now is kind of a "redneck engeneering" and want to have a better solution.

Can I use the later bellhousing mounts and bolt them to the frame somehow? Any other ideas?

Thanks, Frank

Can you post a picture of what you have so far? You might also get one of those transmission adapters for an automatic and then change it to brace the manual. I take it you have a 216?

Example is that I put a 292 in my 59 truck. Bought universal mounts for it, but I have a 1 ton truck and the frame is wider and bigger. So I cut the ears off that would weld to my frame, and then I put the engine in where I wanted it and then welded on new 'ears' with 1/4 plate.

You might have to do something like that.

The engine is a 261, the bellhousing is the later version that accepts the bigger retainer of the OD Tranny.

Here som pics:

Bellhousing

the "Redneck solution" so far

Forces

on the last picture you can see how the forces work now and why I want to change it.

1. The bolt is not all the way in the thread but have to take the full load

2. The engine wight is on the outher end of the L-shaped mount. It will soon work the bolt loose by ruining the thread and cause some major trouble. Evem if I would take a longer bolt this would happen sooner or later.

Is this typical German over the top engeneeing or
am I right?

Thanks for any input, Frank

I would replace the bolt with a stud so it can go in to the proper depth, cut it as required and otherwise leave it as is. Make sure the shims you have on the transmission have the correct size hole in them so they do not shift around and place undue stress on the bolt. Unless it has already worked loose on the ends of the L brace I wouldn't think it should if it isn't flexing.
