Driving down the road sometimes for an hour sometimes more or less. At times when I have to come to a rather quick stop my voltage meter goes really low and in a few instances the truck has stalled. Its the 305 in my '78 Silverado. Any ideas on what could be causing this. I'm stumped. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 400 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 400 | Is your truck carbed or injected? Will it start right back up? Could be loading up if it's carbed and stalling/if injected I don't have a clue. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 843 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 843 | | | | | | Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 11 | Its carbed and will start right back up. I put a voltmeter on the battery and it shows good readings. Thanks guys. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 | I would start by cleaning all the battery connections and ground, then go from there.

The fusible links that attatch there get brittle and sometimes break when the engine harness gets old. This is very common on the 73-87 trucks. Also check the wire at the junction block that runs behind the engine that leads to the starter, there could be a break in that wire. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 46 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 46 | my 81 camaro did similar under a quick stop. I found that the float was out of adjustment causing fuel to slosh and stalling it. Voltmeter drops because of the drop in rpm. what carb are you running. | | |
