Hi all,

We are trying to remove the shifter lever on a 1949 3600 four speed transmission to make it easier working on the cab. We cannot seem to get it to come off. We are guessing there are pins holding it in, but are not sure if we need to take the cover off to access those. If you know where the pins are or the process, that would be very helpful!

Thanks in advance, Erik

no pins, check out this thread. Also squirt some wd-40 or pb blaster around the shifter base to loosen anything that might be caked up in there.

get a large channel lock pliers and clamp around the metal cone that is at the base of the shifter. push down and turn when holding down and the base will come out along with the shifter lever.

Would suggest that you put the transmission in nuetral before removing the lever, just makes installing it easier.

actually that wasn't the one I was thinking of, try a search with "shifter" use the quote marks. It should be fairly easy to get out and they do make a tool for it that I have never had or used. usually I can get them out with just my hands.
