For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 7 | Hi all,
We are trying to remove the shifter lever on a 1949 3600 four speed transmission to make it easier working on the cab. We cannot seem to get it to come off. We are guessing there are pins holding it in, but are not sure if we need to take the cover off to access those. If you know where the pins are or the process, that would be very helpful!
Thanks in advance, Erik

Also squirt some wd-40 or pb blaster around the shifter base to loosen anything that might be caked up in there. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,544 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,544 | get a large channel lock pliers and clamp around the metal cone that is at the base of the shifter. push down and turn when holding down and the base will come out along with the shifter lever. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 240 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 240 | Would suggest that you put the transmission in nuetral before removing the lever, just makes installing it easier.

Thanks again! | | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | actually that wasn't the one I was thinking of, try a search with "shifter" use the quote marks. It should be fairly easy to get out and they do make a tool for it that I have never had or used. usually I can get them out with just my hands. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | | | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | Thanks TC, that's the one. | | |
