My panel truck was brought down to Arizona from Rugby, North Dakota by my friend's father. He intended to fix it up but it ended up sitting on his front driveway for years. I kept asking him if he wanted to sell it but he said he was going to fix it up someday. It never happened and he finally sold me the panel a year ago. The truck had the original 216 motor with 67,000 original miles on it. It still ran but not very well. I opted instead to install a freshly rebuilt 58-62 235 in place of the 216 using the shortened water pump. I converted the panel to 12 volt using a GM one wire alternator and an HEI distributor from 1985 chevy pickup with a 250 motor. I got other parts to get it running well like a freshly rebuilt radiator from the good people here on Stovebolt.com. Now for the main problem the truck had.... rust! The cab was pretty good but all of the fenders and running boards had holes as big as 4 inches in diameter. Needless to say, about 150 hours of welding and bodywork took place to patch all of the rusty areas. I painted the truck and tried to incorporate the original sign into the scheme. The school I work in was built in 1948. The remodeled last year and ripped out all of the original intercom boxes. I took them and mounted speakers in them and mounted them on the rear doors. It fits the look of the panel and I didn't have to cut any holes in my truck.
