My '46 with 350/350 has a Ford gas tank according to the information I am getting. I guess you can tell because the sender mounting is NOT the usual GM or universal 5 hole variety. The sending unit that came with my new gauges DOES have the 5 hole sender.

I did a search, 50 pages! Lots of references to using Blazer tanks for AD and TF trucks, no reference to a specific tank that is optimum for the '41-'46 trucks. Who has done this successfully? What tank did you use?

Thanks. I was hoping a stock car or truck tank would be a close fit. Mine actually is, but I don't know what its from other than Ford. Do you recall if yours wears the Summit name? Dorman? What your part number is?

Original underseat tanks are available from Jim Carter Truck Parts. I added a another tank behind the seat. I just made a cardboard template to see what fit. I got some sheet steel cutoffs cheap from the local metal company -$27.00 bucks. So no I have 18 gallons under the seat and 13 behind the seat. Range- around 450 miles. I bought a new sender that works with the original 6 volts and a fuel selector switch. It also shuts the fuel completely off. The filler was the only odd part. It ended up on the rear of the cab, but it works fine for me.

I used a 49-52 Chevy Passenger car tank on my '65. Some details can be found on page 8 of the following post:

If you like, tell me the distance between your frame rails I can measure my set-up to give you an idea if it would work on your truck.

Jon, Thanks for the info. I used the link to your Photobucket account to see your pictures.

That tank looks like it fills up the space between your frame rails fully. I doubt I have as much space in my '46. I can't check the dimensions on mine today as my truck is in the shop being re-wired for another couple days.

Oh and back to my original problem re-stated:

My '46 HAS an existing Ford tank (so I'm told) of some kind located between the rear frame rails. The fill hole is on top toward the middle. I COULD keep it and WOULD keep it if I could figure a way around my problem, The fuel sender hole uses some kind of collet to hold the sender in. I guess you put it in there and twist and it holds(?) Butthe gauges I bought came with a fuel sender that is of the GM or Universal type with 5 holes around the perimeter. Is there any easy (cheap?) way of adapting what I've got to work together? Anyone know a solution?
