Is it possible to get replacement windshield for 56 3100 with the electric defrost?

ask the local auto glass shop .... yer lucky to get a choice of plain or tinted

Dan....I'd be very surprised if they were available.
I do know there are a few companies over here are doing them for some of 'our' older vehicles, but as yet I haven't seen or heard of any TF windshields.
Hopefully someone can prove me wrong.......
It would be cool though...or should I say hot!

Where are you guys getting your new 2 piece windshields from? Has anybody had any luck with the 1 piece replacements?

wibas: most vendors carry them. Watch out for shipping.

Most folks just go to a local glass shop and get them cut It will save you some money. If you need a pattern I have two new ones and can draw you a pattern.

I've read where some of the "chinese glass" is not the same thickness as the original. Check with the local guys!!

wibas....I'm with Alvin on this one.
If you can,try and get patterns from 'originals'.
Some of the aftermarket stuff is less than satisfactory.
i.e The wrong shape!(Don't ask me how I know)
I'm not sure what the legal requirements are in the U.S but we,in the U.K. require a minimum thickness of 6.4mm(sorry about the Eurospeak!)
Heck,I need to emigrate and set up business...I could make a living from you guys!

Sorry for the 'hijack' Dan, I guess we got sidetracked......(I can't help myself 'talking shop' sometimes!)

I don't hold out much hope for the heated '56 windshield.

If I hear any different,you'll be the first to know!

I assume your talking about the back windshield, cause I can't remember ever seeing a front glass with heater lines in it.
I would talk to a glass shop and ask them if you were able to find a late model glass that was close in size if they could trim it to fit your 56.

Dan(glasman),there are quite a number of modern vehicles now have heated front windshields.(They have very,very fine elements.)
A lot of European F*rds,VWs and many others now use them.
They also make aftermarket ones for older vehicles.But not,as far as I'm aware for 56 Chevys.....
The '56 windshield is a relatively large and complicated shape and I'd bet my bottom dollar there is no other heated one would be even close to the originals shape.
Even then they cannot be cut down or else you break the elements.Kind of defeats the purpose!IMO

Well I thought it was a dream when I asked. For sure it would have to be a direct replacement - could I ever be so lucky to find one that could even be slightly ground to fit?
Wrote PPG about it - no response - will call their local guy
