For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 20 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 20 | I had the local tranny shop fix a problem in the May. She kept slipping out of 3rd gear at 45 mph. She started to do it again after 1000 miles. Is there some adjustment needed or is something else worn that should have been replaced in May ? Any ideas would be a big help. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 | i don't what year truck you have but i had an adjustment problem with the linkage on my 54. it was not going all the way into gear and as long as i held the shift lever it was ok until i adjusted it. ron

The shift forks wore out and the synchronizer assembly wore out. I grab every synchro assembly I find on eBay. 53 had 2 lugs and 54 up had 4 lugs. Did they replace these parts? A synchro assembly is about $125 and the forks about $25. A warped clutch housing or worn out pilot bearing can also cause them to jump out of gear. Of course the first thing to check is the simple things like linkage as mentioned earlier. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 20 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 20 | thanks for your help.
