I have a 52 half ton that I am rebuilding. I am swapping the 216 for a 235 out of a 57. While its apart I'd like to swap out the 3 spd column shift for a 4 spd on the floor. I want to keep the stock torque tube driveline. What year(s) tranny will bolt up? Thanks

I think your only choice is a sm420 up to 1954. Good luck, you shouldn't have any problem locating one of them.

Any SM420 should bolt up, as long as you have the torque-tube rear cover for the transmission. You'll also need a 4-speed torque-tube u-joint (and speedometer drive-gear and driven gear).

Patrick Dykes makes a conversion kit for about $500 that lets you put a modern saginaw trans into the orig driveline and keep the torque tube.
