Hi

I am curious to see if there is any risk in lifting the cab off the frame for 52 AD using forklift put through the door opening to roof. Will it egg out the cab or anything. Or what would be a better way to lift the cab using forklift

Thanks for info

It will egg the roof! Buy a cheap strap or lifting sling or support the forks on wood blocks. If the glass is out you can run boards through the window openings and then come thorugh the doors.

The only trouble with lifting a cab that is not stripped with two is how do you walk it? With doors on it and a few other parts cab weight will approach 300 lbs or more. If you slip or drop it what is the potential of injury or damage. Stripped cab yes you can lift, cab with doors good luck. The other caution with doors on is the window frames they can be bent pretty easily so be careful and pad them if you leave the doors on. For a strap go with the simple solution 25' tow strap from your local auto parts store $10-20 bucks or you may already have one they work great. I have picked up lots of cabs I use my 2-ton Harbor Freight engine hoist however you do it just be careful!

Brad

Is cab just 300lbs I thought it was atleast 2000lbs that is what some one told me. I have a fork lift so I can move around with it or the engine crane as you said can be used to move around in the shop or put on cheepo HF 10 $ dollies and push

Got straps too. I have all ingredients I need to cook it now

Thanks

It may be more than 300 with doors and glass, but is no where near 2000.

Weight

Cab w/doors & glass weighs about 630 pounds.
Cab alone weighs about 260 pounds.
And using a forklift truck the way you want to will DESTROY the cab.
THIS is one way to remove the cab.

With mine I had the doors out and ran two 2x6 through both doors. On each side of the cab we used straps around the 2x6 and up to a back hoe bucket. Lifted straight up, rolled the frame out from underneath and rolled our cab dolly back under.

You could pry use a fork lift the same way.

Heres the basic setup. Check this out.

I did mine like this. It was very hairy since mine is a 4x4. Geeez, why didn't I simply take the tires off?
