I've noticed a few posts about putting a 194 head onto a 235 or 250 to boost compression, is it possible to do something similar to a 292? I have a stock 292 in my truck right now, and a spare 250 sitting in the barn, could I put the 250 head onto my 292 to boost my compression ratio or is it a waste of time to even think about it?

cant tell you how big the cc's are in the combustion chamber's but i took a 230 head and droped some v-8 valves and put it on my 292 and it run's fine .i used it because that was all i had .

The 194/230/250/292 are the same family and the heads will interchange. The 235 is a different animal.
I think only the 194 head has smaller combustion chambers.

Ghostrider has it right. The only head that will get you a compression increase is the 194. The 194 has a 62 vs 72-78cc combustion chamber. That's before any valve or porting work is done. The 194 head will up your compression by about a point, your mileage may vary. Check inliners.org for head casting numbers.

I built a .030" oversize 250 some time ago with 307 V-8 flattop pistons and a .050" mill job on the head. It still runs well on 87 octane, and goes like a scalded cat!

I think some of the 194's and siamese exhaust ports as well as intakes, so check before you buy.

Thanks for the info guys, hopefully I can find a 194 head that will work, that I can actually afford. I will definitely check the casting number on here before I buy anything smile

Any idea about how much it costs to have the valve/porting work done?
