I removed the nut on the output shaft but could not for the life of me get the steering linkage off of the output shaft. I tried prying it, pounding on it, heating it up, drenching it in penetrating oil, using a gear puller but it will not budge. Any ideas?

No need to remove the box for adjustment. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2000 Posts: 784 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2000 Posts: 784 | You can borrow/rent a pitman arm removal tool from your local auto parts store. These are a heavy duty pullers just for this job. Once you get your pitman arm off there's a couple of bolts that holds the stearing box onto the frame. The box and column come out in one piece through the cab.

Don't cut all the way and it should come off.
46 halfton, Have you tried lots & lots of pressure on the pitman arm puller then smacking it with a hammer out on the end? That usally does it. Be sure to leave the nut on, but loose so the whole mess doesn't fly off and hit you in the leg......
