When I put the shifter plate on, I couldn't get it to shift into any gear, I got the top plate from another 4spd, could this be the problem. Any help would be appreciated. resto44

There are two positions on the main shaft and there is a reverse lever on the inside edge of the case. Also make sure the shift rods/forks move well on the top cover before you install the cover.

I went to a local rebuild shop to ask them what it would cost for them to rebuild it. They gave me a price with exchange with the proviso that I must have the matching top plate to the transmission because the shifting forks are set up by the factory to match the transmission. This is probably your problem. Steve O
