will a 230 /250 cam fit?

You will need to get a new set of lifters, or use the same lifter on the same lobe it was riding on.

Once a cam/lifter wear pattern gets established, it shouldn't be disturbed. At least put in a new set of lifters and go through the same break-in procedure as a new cam- - -20 minutes at 2,000 RPM before you idle the engine at all.
