sometimes it charges, sometimes it doesn't. that pretty much sums it up.
I got a current leak somewhere, battery drains in about 2 days to where it won't start. I have no accessories that use power after I turn the ignition switch off.
is converted to alternator (GM 3-wire) still has amp gauge.
can anyone give me an idea on how to start looking where it's going wrong? did a quick search and couldn't find anything wrong. did forget to hook up the oil line after checking the back of the gauge panel though. black feet..
oh and it's a 1959..
help is greatly appreciated, it's the daily driver and it needs to run, I need to make $$ with it

Unhook the 3 wire next time you park it for a few days. See what happens.

check the brake light to see if it's not staying on. If not that inside the alt. is a diode trio that may be bad and letting power drain away, used to be if vehicle had an idiot lite on dashboard at night it would stay an very dim, you knew diode was bad. I would have someone check the alt and see whats up. Good luck

here's a tip:

Take the positive side of the battery off. Connect a test light to the battery cable (positive one) and the other end of the test light to the positive terminal on the battery if the light lights up you have something draining.

As mentioned before it could be the diode in the regulator but it may be a faulty ground somewhere also.

Check the wiring till the light goes out rinse and repeat.

When I grease the muffler bearings it always wants to go backwards and the radio plays classical music ... any suggestions?
