While I have the tranny out I want to try to confirm the viability of the clutch without acutally removing it. I have the bell housing cover off, I'm laying on my back looking up with a flashlight, what next? I wasn't having problems with the clutch before the swap, and I think this truck is in pretty good shape. The tranny gears have minimal wear patters, no tip wear, but, I would like to check out the clutch before I just replace something with 50% plus life left in it, not to mention the work involved. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

The best way would be to remove it and see how much material is left, before hitting the rivots, compared to a new one. While it's out you can inspect the rest for hot spots and cracks too, Scott

It,s kinda from experience. You might look at a new one & get an idea. Don,t try to compare measurments as the disc is comepressed when ingauged. If it worked smooth & looks like it has enough lining it will be ok. You can check the throwout brg. It should turn smooth with out any noise. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum

The first two things to go out, are the throw out bearing and the clutch disc. I would also check out the bushing in the end of the crank, as long as your already there. If the tranny is out, it dont take but a short time to check out this other stuff.
