Great work, shows a incredible attention to detail in every aspect of your truck. Hang around and answer some questions from us beginners.

I mounted new shocks all 4 corners,took off a piece of iron that had been welded between the frame at rear,was'nt able to put brackets on because of it.Hope to mount bumper tonight.Took my rim out to a shop to have it straightened out,i pick it up today.Will be having a discussion with the shop that told me the wobble was my axle.Made myself a list last year,startimg to whittle it down,one step at a time.

I got the rear fender painted Friday and installed them Saturday.
I couldn't get anybody to do the fenders for me so It was my first attempt at body fill and painting centari. The truck now has three different people painting different parts and 2 shades of blue. the cab was done when I got the truck and I could never figure out what colour it was. All I have left to do now is the two front fenders and they are rough. The drivers side is very solid but full of dents. The other fender id straight but full of holes.

I think I applied 3 qts of fill and sanded off 2-1/2 qts. also almost 2 quarts of high build primer and a ton of sand paper. I building the old truck as a driver so I not fretting on anything being perfect. I also started this one with the idea of doing everything as cheap as possible. I did have all the box blasted to bare metal and expoxy primed everything.
I think it will be a fun old truck when done.
I had the front fender over to a friends place and we had it on the english wheel last night and got out some of the dents

I finally got a roof over my truck. I am having to reuse some metal off of my rental house as I replace the roof on it. I cut the cedar post and braces out of logs with a chain saw. I am a happy camper we have gotten almost 8 1/4" of rain in the last two weeks and it feels good to know that at least the truck will be dry. The shop

Finally figured out why my door poppers weren't working. I had to tweak the wires going to the relay. Now when the doors open the courtesy lights light up, that is if the doors were on. I also bought a "Lokar" throttle cable and a "GotaShow" power steering hoses. I'll probably bolt them in this weekend.

I got some more cleaning and painting done(Cowl panel and speaker grill),shortened my alternator bracket,modified(?) my air cleaner and sorted out my booster vacuum hose.
Got my new top shock mounts from Air-ride and mocked them up and still had time to visit our friend who's home from Va.

All in all a reasonably productive weekend!

After seeing how little room there is around the P.S. pump and steering rack I believe I'll just wait until I finish mock-up on front sheetmetal and have it off to the painter's before I hook that up.
The gas pedal will need to wait until I figure out how to mount it to the firewall.

I put my NOS fan pully and a fan spacer on, put a belt & the fan on, added some antifreeze and went for a ride. First of the year. too.

Found out the fan spacer is needed to keep the fan from hitting the pullies in front of the harmonic balancer.

After being parked in October it started right up and ran fine, but I had to add some air to the tires.

I love it.

I've been in the trenches filling and sanding my '55. The stage I've wanted to be at for a long time. I enjoy bodywork..Did all the patch panels 2 years ago and now it's filling, sanding and alaigning panels. This week It's the back of the cab which looked like the bottom of an egg carton. I'll add a pic to photobucket tomorrow.

BTW Eric I went to your webshots and was pleasantly surprised. I've decided to paint my truck Omaha Orange. Just this week I decided to paint the rear window area white and * ain't there one like that at your webpage. I even started a thread Sunday I believe about the two tone concept. Is that your truck? Wonder if the white is Bombay Ivory...or is it Bombay White..

Primered, wet sanded, primered, wet sanded, primered, wet sanded.
You get the idea. Waiting on some consistently warm weather and the rains to stop and then plan on spraying some color. Got the bed boards sealed and sanded. Then I get to start wet sanding.

I spent the weekend separating the e-brake rod from it's spacers and the frame. Over the years of storage, diesel fuel leaked down across those parts and fuzed them together. I finally got everything separated, now I can replace the e-brake system and repair the frame.

I built enough storage in the shop to clean all of the tools and parts out of my cab. I test fit the drivers side floor and it looks good so far. Now I can get to the interior to work without removing all of the crap and putting it all back in when I am through. It sure is nice not to be working outside. It is real nice not to have things rusting back up as quick as I clean them. shop I still have to build some doors and cut enough cedar for the siding. I am going to leave the post exposed and have some 4'x 8' sheets of 4" styrofoam to go under the siding for insulation. It should be like working in a big ice chest. Life is just good.

Bought a 51 3/4 t GMC a few weeks ago. Got the brakes working a little bit, still need bled out. Engine was running, but had a backfire when starting and ran poorly. Found the 4 and 5 plug wires were crossed up and now it purrs like a kitten, Drove about 2 miles and had a ball.

Washed the truck and started waxing it. I've got a car show on May 3, first of the season, and it's also my longest drive ever in the truck - 85 miles each way. Wish me luck.

I drove the '56 about 250 miles. Saturday morning we drove to several historic sites in Palo Pinto County. Then Saturday evening I drove to Fort Worth for the Sonic cruise-in. Met Cliff59 and TXLATX there. Man, I love driving that truck.

I finally got back to work on the cab this weekend. I replaced part of the seat pan and plugged up the gas filler hole. The one mandate from my wife was that the gas tank be moved. There are 5 or 6 photos after the link. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2212574500103315458JMYeKt I really hated to cork up the filler hole but what is done is done.

I had the same feeling as I plugged the filler hole, but I wanted the gas tank out of the cab.
As far as this weekend I did nothing but sit on my bohiney and watched the rain. We must of had 5 inches in 3 days.

Hung the doors ,got them back from painter , cleaned the steering colum and box to get ready to paint , worked on the drivers door some more because I just can not leave it alone was good but just had to play with it took it off , bend hinge now I got to put it back on it all looked good when I test fit before paint , I did somthing wrong a glitch a senior moment what ever , as long as I can fix it I can move on .

Oh boy, you guys get lots done. I made up new lines to tie the tarp on the truck, even whipped the ends. I replaced my drivers door latch, now my dang door doesn't open when I turn right, and go over a bump. Who knew having doors that stay shut is such a luxury, its sooooo nice though! I also washed my floor mat, it sure looks nice now!

got all the one-ton bed parts wire brushed and treated with rust etcher. removed six layers of paint from the bed aprons and pinged out the dents.

On Saturday I finished building my 350. All I need now is money to get the intake manifold, then I'll be good to go. Also started contemplating cutting my long bed to a short, but on Sunday saw a truck for sale with a long bed, which I might need to go and take a look at...

I love this thread it is nice to see what people are doing. Love the mater truck.

How did you polish the steering shaft et.al.?

Big....Look in the background at the bench in this picture and you'll see a bench grinder with a polishing mop.
It was pretty easy actually,the CNC finish from Borgeson is so good,it polishes up real nice!(They're Stainless which helps)
I started with a sisal mop and then onto the bound cotton,in all about 1 hrs work.
P.S. Goggles and gloves are mandatory,these things get pretty dang hot!

All of you put me to shame. I did start assembling my 216, but it's slow. Better to be careful than careless. Regarding Lyndsay's garage pics: I just wish I had a classy Post & Beam garage like that.

I just got in from installing the front discs on my new Suburban. Hope to get the power master cylinder in tomorrow.

I fabricated a stainless bellcrank for the throttle linkage on the 261 installation. It didn't work so well so I remeasured and made another template. MEASURE TWICE AND CUT ONCE! The second one works great. Took the truck out for a test drive and all is well. I'm finally finished. Well, almost. There is the issue of repainting the dash and finish detailing the interior, but the engine project is done.

Here are a couple shots of the Fried Green Tmater with the one-ton bed installed. Ordered new running board to bed aprons, taillights with brackets and bed mounting kit from Jim Carter. It is mounted "dry" now with some spare rubber body mounts I had laying around. Once everything is perfect I will take it all back off and paint the pieces individually.
