the front plate on the 6s, the one under the timing gear cover that also serves as the front mount - what would be the possibility of using one of those plates on a later year 194-292? if it would work, it would eliminate dealing with the side frame mounts or front 'suspension' screw mounts. bingo, direct drop in swap. no?

Good idea, but no seegar! The bolt pattern on the timing cover is not a match, and I believe the length of the old and new engine designs is slightly different. You'd also need a V-8 bellhousing from 55-62 to bolt up to the back of the 194-292 block, and some of them don't have exactly the same motor mount positioning as the 216-261 bellhousings had.

i just pickup up santucci's 6cyl book - yeah, the front alone would require a lot of tweaking. oh well.....

If it would work, the front would be mounted in the center and depending on the trans, it might be mounted in the center as well. Then what would hold the engine up?
