Hey guys...

I've been looking for a rebuild kit for my Rochester... I'm 90% sure that it's original, but for some reason whenever I go looking for a kit I can't find one that matches up with the number on my carb.

I found this stamped on the bottom of the float bowl: 7004497-C-4. I can find matches up through 70044, but the 97 seems to throw me. I've checked NAPA, The Carb Shop, and Carb Doctor, and each time they'll have 7004468, 7004475, 7004476 (or some combo of those three) but no 7004497.

What's up?!?!

I'm planning on driving it to a show this weekend, but doubt I'll make it there unless I get this thing rebuilt.

And yes, this is for my 54' P/U with 3 on the tree, and original 235

By accident I found a kit at Checker O'Reilly made by Holly for the Rochester for a 55 Chevy 235. I was actually looking for a rebuild kit for a Holly and when I got it home and saw what it was I rebuilt a rochester and used it instead. See if your FLAP has anybody who remembers how to read in books and they can probably find it.

I think that they make kits that serve applications from 1950 to 1972 so I don't think the numbers will matter that much. If you are looking for new jets or power piston spring then you may have a problem but usually the needed parts are there.

Like Nix says they should be able to supply it by application if the carb is anywhere near original. There was only about 2 kits made to cover all the model B roch. carbs. They can't find carb #7004497 because it's a float bowl casting #.
That float bowl was used on different carbs.
Carb #7004468 was one of them.

To better identify your carb, what is the casting # on the throttle body?

Update: NAPA shows these carb #'s - 7002051, 7003060, 7003160, 7003864, 7003986, 7004468, 7004476, 7004495, 7005140, 7013029

For my application, do I need to use a gasket between the throttle body and the insulator block when re-installing my carb? The gasket that came with my kit will be blocking a small hole in the bottom flange of the carb. There is a notch on my insulator block that would allow this hole to vent into the intake manifold.

I ask because, when I took the carb off, there was a gasket (same as the one that came with my rebuild kit) there that blocked this passage.

Also, my power valve check ball spring "L" looks squashed a little, but my rebuild kit didn't come with one....What to do ???

That hole provides the route for vacuum advance to the distributor so it needs to be open. If you want to use the gasket (opinions vary) then just punch a small hole in the gasket to accomodate it.

I think you may be talking about the pump discharge check spring. If you have the little T out and it can't be used again then you need to find another one.

No...I have the T, pump discharge spring, and check ball. They looked to be in good condition.

I need a new spring for the power piston. NOT spring K, as detailed in the cut-away, I need the spring that sits between the power valve "J" and the little ball "L". Both of these are shown in the lower right corner of the cut-away diagram I attached in my previous post.
