I have been struggling with paint. I have assured that my stuff is completely clean and dust free, primed and paint as directed but my paint still seems to chip or peel off of stuff. I am beginning to think that it is the paint I am using. I am Canadian so most of my paint is the Crappy Tire brand (Canadian Tire Motomaster) as well as primer. Anyone else have this experience with these paints?

I am almost ready ot start painting my interior parts (dash, seat mount, steering column etc...) and I was to assure that the paint goes on well and will not scratch off easy. What brand of paint have you bolters had good luck with? What do you suggest? Possibly there is a better technique you use that assures the paint adheres well and becomes more durable?

I know the paint I need to take off seems to have adhered well (too good in some areas!)

I'm using Van Sickle Farm & Tractor enamel. Takes forever to cure, but when it does it's bullet proof.

I guess I should look for some kind of enamel for the dash and steering wheel?

If you want the paint to stick and remain durable you need to use a polyeurathane. This is commonly referred to as base coat/ clear coat.

I try to always use Dupont or PPG. Their paint sticks well and will last the life time of the vehicle.

Enamel will chip and peel as well as fade over time.

No better smell than that of fresh paint. I've been building and painting cars/trucks for 47 years. Not gonna stop now.

PPG sells very good single-stage Acrylic Enamels like DAR (you can add a hardener) and single-stage, two-part Acrylic Urethanes like DCC. Often a flattening agent is added for interior paints.

A BaseCoat/ClearCoat (BC/CC) Urethane would be a two-stage system (also shown at the link above).

I use PPG because there is a good stockist nearby. I'd just as easily use Dupont if I had a good stockist nearby.

Can't go wrong with PPG, although Van Sickle and Valspar tractor/truck paints are very good, too. I've also heard good things about the Dupli-Color pre-mix paints from the parts stroes, but the color selection seems limited, or at least in my area they are.
As to DuPont, never had good luck with DuPont. Doesn't seem to want to stay on the vehicle. Both my Blazer and my Dad's '88 Silverado have DuPont on them, and both are either peeling or flaking off.
