Many people mount them with the attachment posts up, for ease of attachment (and, I've heard people say, to avoid leaks)? If the coil leaks, replace it.
All documents that I have seen have had the attachment posts down.

After the re-build the coil would not fit facing down, so I had to flip it over. All I can figure is that I pushed the oil pump in too much, causing the distributor to raise up a little when I installed it. | | |
