During the unusual ease of tracking down the title for my truck, I learned that the cab is the 'Custom' cab with large window off of a long bed fleetside. Now it sits on a shortbed frame that will have a stepside box. I'm just curious if this would have been an actual production unit... I don't know alot of this type of history.

Thanks

If I am understanding your questions correctly.... Could a Shortbox, Stepside truck have had a Custom cab w/ large back window in 1966.... Yes, it probably was produced. This was a time when you could easily go to a dealer and get exactly what you wanted (within a certain list, of course). Pretty much anything was possible.

Custom Cabs were a trim package... they had the flags on the doors, extra trim... usually had some other chrome items here and there as well. I think the same plastic knobs inside had the plastic chrome on them...

If you check out the gallery here at the bolt you will see some examples of it.

I agree a custom cab could be had on all the trucks even the larger trucks. So what makes you think the cab is from a longbed? The vin? If The vin tells you it came off a long wb then thats were it came from. When these trucks were put togther many moons ago, They started as a build sheet. So if it statarted down the line as a long wb it got a vin num of a long wb and vise versa. So if your vin number in the cab says its a long wb and its on a short wb frame I would say some one other than the factor changed your cab. Maybe I read to much into your question, but I hope this helps. But who realy cares what the cab went to as long as your happy with what you got. Bet theres not a lot of people that would even notice. Good luck with it!
