could someone post pics of there stock bench seat and seat belts for a 65-66, or earlier if they are the same.

Reason is i want to find some stock replacements, or close to it, for the aftermarket bench seat and seat belts the previous owner put in.

That's not a weird request at all. If no one posts up pics of a seat by tomorrow I'll get some of the seat out of my '63 C20. It's the same as what's in a 65 or 66. Do you need pics of the mounts or just the overall seat? As for seat belts, sorry, neither of my '63's has 'em.

The '65 Chevrolet trucks ( or any 1965 vehicles ) didn't come with seat belts , at least not to my knowledge ! I think that seat belts became mandatory in cars in 1967 or 1968 - not sure when they were put into trucks ? I may be wrong but I had a 1966 Chevy II SS and it had the optional seat belts . You could Google it and find out !

It was federally mandated that seat belts were put in all vehicles after 1966. In 1965 seatbelts for Chevy trucks were not standard, they were an option so it is very hard to find a '65-'66 truck that has original seat belts.

Seat belts, side mirrors, windshield wipers and reverse lights were made mandatory in '66, but I'm sure some of the trucks made earlier in the year didn't have them yet. You can tell a '66 stepside rear fender by the indentations for the reverse lights.

Bear's right about seatbelts being an option prior to '66. Luckily my '66 replacement cab has them, because if I had used the '64, I'd have had to retrofit them.

I know this doesn't help much with your request, but if no one posts pics, I'll get some to ya tomorrow hopefully.

in Canada they were mandatory that they were installed as of dec.31.63

thanks for the pics, nice truck. I dont think those are factory seat belts, I dont think they came with shoulder belts.

No, the waist belt in middle is from a cadillac, and i paid $200+ for the aftermarket shoulder belts, because if you DO get in a wreck, not only will it instantly kill whoever you hit but it'll make you eat some solid steel steering wheel

Now you got me scratchin' my head. Do you have first hand knowledge about the indentations on the fenders? I have a '66 stepside fender on my '65. It had (2) small holes to mount the back-up lights but no indentations. Indentations would have required new tooling to stamp the fenders, which would have been big bucks for the general.

John, sure do. My '64 step has no indentations, nice and smooth rear fenders. My '66 step parts truck has indentations for the backups. In fact, I'll be cutting off the 66's right side indentation and fitting it to my '64's fender, as the '64 fender is in a lot better overall shape. Maybe yours were actually earlier year fenders modded to update to the backups?

I'll try to get some pics later today.

These trucks did have an optional shoulder belt... I'm not sure what year it was first offered though.

It was a total manual deal, no retraction... and it had two buckles, one for the lap, one for the shoulder part.


UPDATE: on the factory 3 point shoulder belt the top belt portion did retract to the B pillar, but the lap belt portion did not.


The 1966 trucks have a threaded bolt hole up in the corner of the cab to use these manual shoulder belts.

Woogeroo, is the only difference in length between my truck and your about a foot extension on the actual step? The fender seems the same size as mine.

the short bed is 6 feet and an inch I think inside the bed box. The fenders are the same, the tailgate, etc. The frames are a little longer, the step is longer, part of the bed box sides are longer.


These are actual measurements I took of my truck bed, I've had 'em posted on my website for a few years:


The long bed step side bed measurements:

from the surface of the bed wood to the top of of the bed rail - 17 3/8th inches

Bed Length 8 feet 4 inches (100 inches) - outside edge to outside edge

Bed Width 4 feet 2 inches(50 inches) - inside to inside

Usable Inside Bed Length 8 feet 1 Inch (97 inches)

33.68 square feet of bed space.



The wheelbase, the distance between the center of the front wheel and the center of the rear wheel is different as well, the long bed is 127 inches... and off the top of my head I want to say the short bed wheelbase is 116 inches(I might be off on this one).

Actually, the shoulder portion of the assembly, is a retractable style belt. I have seen them and I have a few of them. When not in use, they retract to the "B" pillar mounting location and pull down, to snap into the lap belt assembly.

I don't have them in my possession, right now, but I have seen them, so I know they exist.
